Collector note with Frederic Chopin
 (16-03-2010)

The latest collector banknote issued by National Bank of Poland and produced by PWPW is 20 zł. It commemorates the 200th birth anniversary of the outstanding Polish composer and pianist Frederic Chopin.

The banknote designed by Grzegorz Pfeifer and Katarzyna Jarnuszkiewicz was issued on February 22nd, 2010 with a circulation of 120 thousand units. The leitmotif is the figure of the great virtuoso and a piano symbolically presented on both sides of the note - says Grzegorz Pfeifer. The front of the banknote depicts a portrait of Frederic Chopin in profile. This element has been made with steel engraving technique. The engraving of the portrait was made by Przemysław Krajewski – hand engraving artist at the Polish Security Printing Works.

On the left-hand side, there is an image of the manor house in Żelazowa Wola where the composer was born. On the right-hand side, there is a reproduction of the first edition of Mazurka in B-flat major, Op. 7 No. 1 and of the autograph of the composer. The back of the banknote shows a facsimile of a fragment of Etude in f-minor, Op. 10, No. 9, against a landscape with willows, characteristic of Central Poland region.
Motion carried watermark designer of the banknote, while the full development of sculpture watermark – Piotr Karczmarczyk of PWPW Cylinder Mould Production Section. Guilloches were prepared by Agnieszka Próchniak and Paweł Kosiński of our Graphical Design & Project Development Studio.

Subsequent collector notes appear at yearly intervals. – By releasing collectors note dedicated to some event or person we want to honour them in a truly unique way - says Jacek Polkowski of the NBP Press Office. On the question what is going to be celebrated next year Polkowski responds – We consider, among others, the 100th anniversary of Czesław Milosz birth, or the 100th anniversary of the Nobel Prize for Marie Skłodowska-Curie.
