Three hundred thousand tachograph cards
 (28-10-2010)

Polska Wytwórnia Papierów Wartościowych S.A. has issued a three hundred thousandth digital tachograph card.  Since May 2009 the digital tachograph is supported by a system that has been independently developed by PWPW.

The Digital Tachograph System was launched in Poland on May 1st, 2006 as required by EU directives and regulations. It was developed in an extremely short period of time of 7 months. Comprehensive administration of the digital tachograph system in Poland is provided, as set forth in a relevant act, by Polska Wytwórnia Papierów Wartościowych S.A. The company collects the applications submitted and issues four types of processor cards: driver cards, company cards, workshop cards and control cards. Since May 2009 PWPW has provided support services for the tachographs with the use of its own electronic card service subsystem (POKE). PWPW has also obtained the certificate of approval for the cards it produces.

Poland is one of the countries that proved the fastest to implement the digital tachograph system in its entirety, with the implementation concerning not only the issuance of the cards but also the connection to TACHONET system, which ensures the exchange of the information on the cards issued between national entities responsible for the issuance of the cards. According to the official data such countries as Portugal and Denmark are still not connected to the system, and the Great Britain connected thereto as late as in mid-September 2007. Countries that are connected to TACHONET system include new member states of the EU e.g. Bulgaria and Romania. The Czech Republic, Hungary and Greece connected to the system in 2008 and more recently AETR countries like Croatia, Albania and Monaco joined the group.

At present Polska Wytwórnia Papierów Wartościowych S.A. accepts on average 250 applications daily and issues ca. 5.5 thousand cards every month. According to the agreement concluded with the Ministry of Infrastructure PWPW S.A. must issue the cards within 26 working days; however, by the end of September 2010, 99.3 percent of the cards were issued by PWPW before the lapse of 14 calendar days. Over the period of time during which 300 thousand cards were issued the number of complaints dropped regularly and this tendency is maintained. Currently, the complaint ratio amount to 0.3 percent of all cards issued.
