The Polish stamp wins in Lisbon
 (03-10-2012)

The stamp “The 600th anniversary of the battle of Grunwald” won in the rotogravure stamps category of a competition held during the 14th Conference of Government Post Stamp Producers in Lisbon.

The stamp was issued by Poczta Polska – it began circulation in June 2010 in an impression of 400 thousand items. The author of the stamp is Marzanna Dąbrowska.

The rotogravure technique is one of the types of gravure printing. The printing frame here consists of a cylinder with an engraved image. During the engraving process, cavities are made with a diamond needle or through chemical etching. The printing ink is collected in the cavities and transferred to paper from there. This technique is usually used for highly efficient printing.

Polska Wytwórnia Papierów Wartościowych S.A. (Polish Security Printing Works) has been the producer of stamps for Poczta Polska for many years, it produces over half a billion items per year. The company’s portfolio includes, among others, scented stamps, triangular stamps, stamps with dry embossing, stamps with an overprint transferred by the means of unconventional inks and ground prints used for the production of personalized stamps.
