PWPW with IT security certificate

The Polish Security Printing Works has been awarded a certificate of compliance with the Common Criteria standard. This means it can compete with the largest companies offering microprocessor software.

 

The Common Criteria standard allows for formal verification of the security of IT systems. PWPW was subject to a detailed audit, which resulted in the awarding of the Common Criteria certificate for the development environment of PWPW SmartApp products for the next two years.

PWPW SmartApp is a family of applications loaded on microprocessors being a part of identity documents, including passports, new electronic identity cards, residence cards, access cards. The Common Criteria certificate confirms the highest level of security of premises and PWPW SmartApp development procedures.

Today, microprocessors are increasingly used in a wide variety of documents around the world. They are found, inter alia, in student cards, city cards, travel documents, payment and prepaid cards, voting cards and electronic signature creation cards. The certificate enables PWPW to develop software that meets the Common Criteria standards and requirements.

The award of the Common Criteria compliance certificate was preceded by a detailed examination of the procedures in accordance with which PWPW's development area operates. The auditor checked, inter alia, procedures related to software development, quality control, tracking of reported errors, responsiveness to reports and troubleshooting, appropriate backups, etc, as well as management of the software life cycle phase.

The development environment of PWPW was assessed by TÜV Informationstechnik GmbH, and the certificate awarded by BSI (Bundesamt für Sicherheit in der Informationstechnik).
