Nomination for the international Banknote of the Year 2014 award | |

The “100th anniversary of creation of the Polish Legions” was nominated for the prestigious Banknote of the Year 2014 award organised by the International Bank Note Society (IBNS).
This collector’s 20 PLN banknote has been issued by the National Bank of Poland and manufactured by PWPW S.A. The banknote’s obverse features a portrait of Marshall Józef Piłsudski, and the reverse features the images of the Grand Gross (with star) of the War Order of Virtuti Militari awarded to the Marshall, emblems of the 1st Brigade of the Polish Legions and the legions’ eagle. The banknote was designed by Andrzej Heidrich, and the engraving was done by Krystian Michalczuk.
The security features used in the banknote include, but are not limited to, a transparent window featuring a holographic image of the Belweder Palace, a plant image that changes colour depending on the angle of observation, a translucent metallic blue element incorporated into the banknote’s art, as well as steel engraving print, microlettering and typographic numbering.
The International Bank Note Society (IBNS) is a non-profit organisation operating since 1961 with more than two thousand members from 90 countries. The annual Banknote of the Year award is one of the most prestigious events of this type. The winning Banknote of the Year 2014 will be selected and announced in April 2015.
