At this year’s Currency Conference in Kuala Lumpur, a Polish 20 zloty banknote, issued last year to celebrate the 1050th Anniversary of the Baptism in Poland, won the main award for the “Best New Commemorative or Limited Circulation Banknote”.
The award was collected, on behalf of the National Bank of Poland, by Mr Jacek Bartkiewicz – Member of the Management Board, NBP.
PWPW S.A. was represented by Mr Piotr Wojcieszek, Director of the Banknotes and Security Prints Division.
The banknote to celebrate the 1050th anniversary of the Baptism in Poland was made by Polish Security Printing Works at the order of the National Bank of Poland. It was released for circulation on 12 April 2016 at 35,000 pieces. The banknote was designed by Mr Krystian Michalczuk, a graphical artist, PWPW.
The ex aequo award was won by the People’s Bank of China for its 100 yuan banknote.
The award, given by the International Association of Currency Affairs (IACA), is one of the most prestigious awards in the banknote printers’ industry.
IACA golden statuette for a banknote from Poland has been awarded for the second time. Two years ago, another Polish banknote was distinguished. Manufactured on a polymer substrate, it was titled: “Centenary of the Formation of the Polish Legions”.
In addition, this year, another security print was nominated to the IACA award in the “best promotional banknote” category, titled “Chess”, that has been manufactured at PWPW. It presents PWPW’s state-of-the-art technology capabilities.
This competition will be decided tomorrow!
